The Text in the Community: Essays on Medieval Works, Manuscripts, Authors, and Readers. Edited by Jill Mann and Maura Nolan. Notre Dame, IN: Notre Dame University Press, 2006. Pp. xv + 296, 3 plates.

2001 was a good year for Notre Dame. Michael Lapidge and Jill Mann joined the English department and the library acquired from the collection of William and Cristina Foyle a fifteenth-century Middle English manuscript, now Notre Dame 67, that provides numerous insights into the circulation of late medieval devotional texts. The essays in this collection celebrate these dual acquisitions. Although the first three essays are only loosely connected to those that follow, all make a significant contribution to scholarship, while offering glimpses into Notre Dame's other medieval holdings.
