Book Review

Volume 102• Number 1

January 2003

Chaucer's Body: The Anxiety of Circulation in the Canterbury Tales. By R. Allen Shoaf. Gainesville, Florida: University Press of Florida, 2001. Pp. xvi + 208. $55.

As a founder and editor of the journal Exemplaria, R. Allen Shoaf has been responsible for encouraging some of the newest work in medieval and Renaissance studies, particularly by younger scholars. Meanwhile, he has continued to publish a long series of articles and books that, while they allude to the theoretical revolutions of the past few decades, in fact pursue independent and often esoteric themes.
